A new series of synthetic stock inks from Braden Sutphin Ink Company has proved particularly successful on recent press trials running DuPont™ Tyvek® brand protective material.

“Synthetic substrate printing applications require inks that work effectively with the chosen substrate,” said Jack Collison, DuPont™ Tyvek® technical specialist. “In offset printing, pairing a synthetic substrate with a synthetic stock ink that has less than 3 percent VOC (volatile organic compound) content produces consistent, precise results for printers and converters.”

Braden Sutphin has gone a step further with the development of Styrene Synthetic Stock 4-Color Process series inks that are 100 percent nonvolatile with excellent press stability and transfer qualities.

“Synthetic printing surfaces like the DuPont™ Tyvek® used in recent press trials yield the best results when paired with an ink that does not contain solvents,” said Ray Loomis, national sales manager, Braden Sutphin. “Solvent-free inks prevent swelling and distortion and help to decrease drying time. Our press-ready synthetic stock inks are 100 percent nonvolatile and produce a high performance result with a super-hard finish and excellent scuff resistance.”

“We know that pairing Tyvek® and Braden Sutphin inks yields excellent and consistent printing results,” Collison said. “If you're dealing with other ink suppliers who may not have the same history and familiarity with Tyvek®, the best rule of thumb is to furnish your ink supplier with a small sample of the Tyvek® you have chosen. They can test their inks on your Tyvek® sample and adjust the formulation, if necessary. This will help confirm your desired result including a preview of the final color of the inks when applied to Tyvek®.”

Printers and converters choose DuPont™ Tyvek® protective material because of its unique combination of properties. It is tough yet soft, lightweight and highly printable. It resists water, most chemicals, extreme temperatures and rough handling but can be stitched, perforated, die cut and coated. The versatility of Tyvek® makes it perfect for numerous graphic challenges, from tree and nursery tags to wrist tickets and steel labels—and many applications in between.

Braden Sutphin Ink Company produces over 9 million pounds of ink annually, and manufactures a wide variety of printing inks, including commercial sheetfed offset, web heatset, web forms non-heatset, duplicator, rubber base, oil base, soy-oil inks, and other low volatile content products, spot colors and specialty inks. They also produce water based flexographic inks that are compatible with a variety of applications, including Tyvek®. The company, founded in 1913, maintains its corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, and is supported by 13 other facilities and branches throughout the United States.
